7 Golden Rules for Healthy Hair

Get regular haircuts

Doing this allows your hair to continue to grow so your hair isn’t splitting up the hair shaft. Not getting a hair cut is like taking two steps forward and three steps back. If you are getting regular trims it feels like 3 steps forward and a half step back. Yes, you cut some of your hair off but its so it can grow healthy instead of that frizzy sweatery feeling it can get on the ends after not being cut for months. The longer you go without a hair cut usually means more hair will have to come off because its unhealthy and uneven.

Take care of your scalp

Taking care of your scalp is so important to hair health. If your scalp is suffering, so will your hair. Make sure to balance our your PH and use shampoo and conditioner that is cleansing and moisturizing. Anything that is bought in big box stores will most likely have a negative effect on you. Most products are very acidic (if you ate this stuff your mouth would burn) and start to block your hair follicle so hair starts breaking or stops growing. What you want out of a product is if you can understand the ingredients on the label, it’s most likely going to be good for you. If its a lot of words that describe different alcohols and scientific terms-you are not going to benefit from that product. Instead, look for products that are organic, naturally derived, and natural ingredients found in nature like flowers, fruit, vitamins, and amino acids.

Take care of your body

Whatever you are putting in your body or not in your body makes a difference. Drinking lots of water and eating plenty of whole foods will make a huge difference compared to eating fast food in general. Eating a healthy, balanced diet, rich in whole foods, is beneficial for your hair because it's high in essential vitamins and minerals. It may reduce the risk of hair loss and help you grow stronger, healthier hair.

Brush your hair before you shower

Not only does brushing your hair help with shampooing and conditioning easier, it’s great to stimulate the scalp to help with hair growth and releasing any dirt and oil at the scalp. Like a scalp massage, brushes stimulate the capillaries in your scalp and increase circulation in the area. This increases the oxygen and nutrient delivery to the follicles, which fortifies hair growth at the root.

Use hair masques regularly

Using masques regularly will keep your hair and scalp healthy. The benefits included are:

  • Diminishes frizz.

  • Improves scalp health.

  • Prevents hair breakage and split ends.

  • Reduces hair damage.

  • Softens hair.

  • Stimulates hair growth.

  • Strengthens hair.

  • Adds hydration and moisture to hair.

Stay away from sunlight

Direct sunlight can dry out your hair, fade color, make split ends happen faster from excess heat, and much more. A lot of times after the summer we see more split ends than the spring because of heat from your tools and heat from the sun. If you’re a beach goer, buy a UV protectant spray to keep your hair as healthy as possible. Not only is protecting your hair important but you don’t want to get sunburn-or worse-cancer-on your scalp. If you have fine, thin hair you are more likely to get skin cancer from the exposure to your scalp.

Use professional product

We don’t say this to “sell, sell, sell” there are true benefits from using professional products.

  1. They last way longer. Shampoos and conditioners at a professional grade are concentrated so you use more water and less product.

  2. The products are usually cleaner to naturally derived or even organic. Depending on what your values are, its really important to know what is important to you. Everything we use soaks into our bodies. From lotions, perfumes, hairsprays to shampoo.

  3. You won’t have any buildup like you will with store bought product. Big box store products have a lot of wax, chemicals, and just things you don’t want on your hair or in your body. In fact, some products have been recalled or even lawsuits against these products because of carcinogens, hair loss, scalp damage, and more.

  4. I personally like my naturally derived and organic products because I want to make sure I am taking care of my body, my toddler, and my family in general. In my opinion, getting professional product is like shopping for healthy foods instead of junk food. Junk food doesn’t give you any nutrition and it might taste good for the moment but longterm their is nothing good about it. Where if your’e eating healthy food, you may not notice any effects in the first week, but you will over time-and you will feel better too!
