If you’re going darker…

If you’re feeling the itch to go darker for the fall, tone it down and don't permanently change your color. Toning your hair with a Demi permanent color allows you to go darker without the potential damage to going lighter in the summer. Whenever you use bleach and then a permanent color back and forth- you are opening and closing the cuticle a lot (think of it like a toddler opening and closing a door a million times and eventually the door starts breaking down at the hinges or naturally starts to open because the door knob stopped working). After a period of time your hair becomes porous, loses elasticity, and doesn’t hold hair color well.

This is why we recommend using a toner to go darker because it doesn't fully open the cuticle or “door” but just cracks it open to see what’s inside-sort to speak. The color lives there for about 4-8 weeks and then decides to move out. This is when we notice hair color that starts to fade back to the previous color or close to it.

By the time spring comes around, you’ll most likely want to go brighter and this makes it better for you, your hair, and the stylist to lift you back up the that brighter color you were once before.

This ultimately gives you healthier hair, shinier hair, and keeps your hair super healthy.
